Hempfield High School allows their students to join a variety of clubs that can cater to each student’s interests. From clubs that relate to future careers to listening to Taylor Swift, Hempfield gives students the opportunity to have fun in each and every club they choose to join. Besides the clubs that take place during school hours, there are many clubs with academic benefits that take place out of school. These clubs attain students’ interests while benefitting the students’ learning and the community.
One of these clubs, the Anchor Club, run by Mrs. Settle, is a service and volunteer club. Anchor Club allows students to positively impact their community by engaging in volunteering opportunities. Anchor Club members get the opportunity to hone their leadership abilities, improve their communication skills, and sharpen their organizational abilities. Being a member of the Anchor Club is a useful advantage when applying to colleges, highlighting members as active members of their school and community.
Another out-of-school club, Quiz Bowl, run by Mr. Frick, competes against other teams in the Lancaster-Lebanon League. Quiz Bowl members have the opportunity to showcase what they have learned in school. Members enjoy learning new facts and are inspired by Quiz Bowl to conduct studies on many topics. Being a part of Quiz Bowl, especially as a captain, can demonstrate leadership and teamwork abilities, both of which are excellent attributes for college applications.
