The annual HHS Variety Show, orchestrated by the Student Council, is set to dazzle the audience on Saturday, November 19. Showcasing a multitude of talents from 25 students, ranging from soulful singing to traditional performances like the Senior Girls Dance and TaiJi Kungfu Fan dance.
Securing a spot in the Variety Show required students to impress the discerning eyes of the Student Council through auditions. Avery Landis, the Student Council President, disclosed that acts are meticulously evaluated in four crucial areas: skill, stage presence, creativity, and variety. Avery noted a shift this year, observing, “While there seems to be a higher number of singers, the overall quality of acts has significantly improved. I’m very pleased with this year’s selection.”
In an exclusive peek into rehearsals, we caught up with two talents: 11th grader Owen Bush and freshman Reagan Hoover, both guitar enthusiasts. Owen, who has been playing for three years, will sing and play “She Talks to Angels” by the Black Crowes. Owen shared, “My family and friends encouraged me to audition.” Meanwhile, Reagan, performing the Beatles’ “Blackbird” on the guitar, sees this as an opportunity to showcase his skills, aspiring to pursue music theory at the University of Delaware.
