Dance Theater is a unique program at Hempfield High School that, each year, brings students together through hard work and dedication. Over the past 40 years, Dance Theater has allowed many students to express themselves through dance, make friends, have fun, and give to the Hempfield community. This year’s production was titled “Connection”. The show featured many types of connections and ways we can all connect — for instance, through nature and online. Additionally, it displayed the connection between people through love, friendship, and conflict.
Frau Henrich, a Hempfield teacher who worked on Dance Theater, said she enjoyed helping with this year’s production. She said her favorite part of helping with the show was seeing kids connect, especially students who typically would not interact with each other. She stated, “Dance brings communities together”. She described this year’s show as “completely original” and believes students should audition next year to stay in shape, learn new skills, meet new people, and show off hard work.
Many students also enjoyed being a part of this year’s show. Isabella Gracey exclaimed, “It is an enjoyable environment and you don’t have to be embarrassed if you don’t know how to dance”. She explained that her favorite part of Dance Theater was “getting to dance with people I haven’t danced with before and learning new dance styles”. She stated, “People should audition next year to get an experience that most other schools don’t have”.
