If you have not watched Supernatural, I recommend doing so — it’s a terrific show. If you do not watch it, that’s okay, just be aware of major spoilers ahead.

What is Supernatural?

Supernatural is a show that first aired in 2005. It stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, who portray brothers Sam Winchester and Dean Winchester. These characters hunt supernatural creatures that have been tormenting their lives since childhood. Both Sam and Dean’s backstories are pretty upsetting. Their mother died when Sam was a baby and Dean was a child, and their father was mostly absent while hunting monsters, leaving Dean as the parental figure of Sam.

Supernatural: manifestations or events considered to be of supernatural origin, such as ghosts.

How did Supernatural become so popular?

Supernatural became popular in the horror-sci-fi genre because of the captivating storylines revolving around the Winchester brothers. No one expected this show to keep getting green light after green light. Eventually in 2020, at 15 Seasons, the show ended, or did it? According to Screen Rant, “There was no abrupt cancelation, no begrudging mini-season to tie off loose ends, and no half-hearted rush to the finish line. Supernatural‘s series finale didn’t find anything even close to universal acclaim, but less than two years down the line, a spinoff has already been made [The Winchesters] and talk of a revival is non-stop.”

Unfortunately, The Winchesters did not find success as Supernatural did, and people still want another season. This show has become a fan favorite, similar to Grey’s Anatomy and SVU with their long-lasting amount of seasons. The big question is: Will Supernatural return?

Season 1 Recap:

It all began with a backstory of when Sam and Dean were children. Their mom, Mary Winchester, was walking towards Sam’s nursery when she noticed a tall dark figure. She assumed it was John Winchester, her husband. When she quickly realized it was not John, she ran towards the nursery. Unknown to Mary as well as the audience at the time, it was a demon (wanting Sam for an entire upbringing in later seasons). The demon killed Mary in a fiery death, and John rushed out with Dean and Sam, leading to their lives as hunters of the supernatural.

22 years later, Dean goes to Sam’s home to ask for help to find their dad since he has been “missing” for days on a “hunting trip”. Sam agrees as long as he is back on time for his law school interview. By the time he arrives back home, he has not heard from a girl, Jess, since before he left. On Sam’s return, he sees Jess hanging from the ceiling, suffering the same fate as his late mother. Dean saved Sam just in time, leaving Sam to grieve over Jess forever, who we later find out he was going to marry.

This brings the audience into the journey of the Winchester brothers as they hunt monsters left and right. In time, Sam and Dean meet John while in search of a mystical gun (The Colt) that carries 13 magical bullets with the ability to kill any monster – including demons. As a dysfunctional team, they confront the demon who killed Mary and Jess—revealing that the demon was sent with bigger plans for the future.

In the end, they end up in critical condition as they get hit by a truck. Leaving him hooked up to tubes in Season 2.

What is the Possibility of Supernatural Returning?

It has been known that Jared and Jensen could be willing to return as the Winchester brothers. According to Collider, Jared announced, “I have some ideas, and I hope that now the writers are back, and the actors are back, that we all get together.” Jared also revealed that once they figure out the direction they will take after the end of Season 15, a revival could be in the works if they get that green light.

Jared and Jensen have had a packed schedule throughout the years. However, since Walker’s cancellation, of Jared’s former role, a renewal of Supernatural could be possible. As for Jensen, he is to return as Soldier Boy in The Boys which could put a strain on the probability of Supernatural.

Considering Walker’s decline, Jared hopes this opens a window for him to move over to The Boys alongside Jensen—as for the fans, they are crossing their fingers that this could be a chance for more Supernatural.

As of now, we are unsure that the Winchester brothers will return. But the more rumors and information that come out, the more of a possibility for the Winchester brothers to come back.
