On a snowy Christmas Eve, children are leaving warm cookies with milk near the tree. Laughter and cheer is heard, and the Christmas tree is glowing and bright. Mariah Carey’s most famous song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” can be heard softly playing in the background as the children pray that Santa doesn’t skip their home.
On the other side, Jewish children are watching the menorah become lit. Traditional Hanukkah songs can be heard as happiness can be felt beaming off of the family.
These young children are simply enjoying the moment, unknown to the fact that years from now, they may not have as much holiday spirit.
This leads to the topic of this story… Are teens losing their holiday spirit? To find out, I asked a couple of students at Hempfield for their opinions.
One student, Aiden, claims that holiday spirit is important for kids and that when he has some of his own, he plans to have them believe in Santa to keep the tradition going.
Some other students, Aizen, Sean, and Cejerry, exclaimed their love for the holidays, “I get to just chill and relax.”
Many students have claimed that the holidays, like Christmas, aren’t as special anymore. “It just doesn’t hit the same,” a phrase heard over and over.
All in all, the holidays are a wonderful time to simply just enjoy being with family, friends, and even yourself. If you find yourself not really in the holiday mood, it is best to try doing winter activities to activate more of the holiday spirit. Happy holidays!
