The sun beams down as many seem to be taking it in. The attire of many seems to include a light sweater as the heavy coats are put away for the next winter. The wind is slow, and the smiles of many are bright. Spring seems to be knocking on the door, and the people in the Hempfield community are ready to let it in!
As it becomes warmer, the moods of many Hempfield students and staff seem to be lifted. Now this comes to the question that many, including myself, are left pondering: Does sunlight improve our mood?
Many studies have shown that sunlight helps release serotonin which helps with feeling energized and positive, but during the dark/night time, our brains are producing more melatonin. Therefore, natural light helps improve productivity.
Also, while speaking with a few students, it was expressed that during the winter, many feel as though they’re going through a “slump” or an unproductive and negative stage in life. This is due to the fact that when looking out of the window, the weather was gloomy. Another student mentioned the fact that she cannot wait for spring because the air is fresh, the sun is out, and her productivity levels will be at an all time high.
All in all, studies have shown that productivity levels can depend on weather, and sometimes all we need are some sunshine. As our weather level varies, you should encourage anyone you know or even yourself to get out and enjoy that sunshine. After all, everyone feels good when the sun is shining.
