The Hempfield Foundation was founded in 1993 and has since continued to play an important role in the funding of Hempfield School District. In just 31 years of service, more than one million dollars have been awarded. Every single dollar raised is by donation and is spent on educational purposes. Grant applications are available; many teachers have received these and have used the money for great things.
Hempfield High School teacher Dr. Hough spoke out on the great help the Foundation provides. “Throughout the years, I have used the Hempfield Foundation to help improve academically. I would describe them as incredible and supportive, and they have been a huge help.”
A big part of the foundation is its ability to partner with companies who help with financial aid. One of their largest partnerships is with PennState Health. There are several companies who are generously continuing to donate hundreds each year.
As of the 2023-2024 report, Donegal Insurance Group and First National Bank were considered 1993 Partners with a donation range of $10,000 to $24,999. Customers Bank, The Allen Family Foundation, and a few others are under the group Black Knight Partners with a donation range of $5,000 to $9,999. The Red & Black Partners consist of Spooky Nook Sports, Northwest Bank, Kellogg’s and more. The Red & Black category classifies donors who give $1,000 to $4,999. The final category is the Give me an “H” Partners. About $500 to $999 is donated by places such as Trolley Line Coffee and Hot Z Pizza.
Just one year ago, the Hempfield Foundation awarded 36 grants which totaled almost $80,000. There are several categories that the Foundation put their attention towards. A total of $15,510 was put towards Elementary School Reading across the district. Alongside the focus on Literature, $1,950 was given for Middle School English Language Arts. STEAM has become a fun and exciting part of the school experience. The Foundation has dedicated $21, 213 for STEAM across Elementary, Middle, and High Schools. In the overall category of Leadership, Entrepreneurship, library, and Family and Consumer Science, $16,453 has been granted. Across the district Elementary, Middle, and High Schools, $17,651 has been awarded for Art and Music. Last but not least, Special Education, Emotional, and other Support Programs have been given $5,680.
As of August of this school year, the elementary and middle schools have received many grants for many different subjects. Just among the Elementary schools, a total of 10 grants have been awarded. To total 13 just this school year, 3 have been awarded to Middle Schools.
Throughout the years, the Hempfield Foundation has been a well used resource and continues to help out the Hempfield community.
