Jim Murphy visited Hempfield High School last Thursday to share his experiences from 9/11. He spoke about losing close friends and the heartbreaking task of informing their wives. He described the overwhelming amount of dust at the site and explained that he still goes for medical check-ups due to the long-term health risks, including lung cancer, caused by the exposure. He also noted that 21,000 survivors were rescued that day, but watching people jump from the towers was deeply traumatizing. As part of his presentation, he brought old newspapers and pieces of cement from that tragic day.
He emphasized that 9/11 is something that should never be forgotten and that it is important for everyone to learn about it, especially for today’s students who were not yet alive when it happened.
