The Fall Fling is when staff and students come together to create booths and games for everyone to engage in. The weather was steady at 71 degrees, sunny, with no clouds. A small moment of freedom away from the hovering assignments and grades, as well as the chance to be a kid again.
The Fall Fling is more than a school gathering; it is a safe space for students to allow themselves to separate from everything else. Not permanently, because school anxiety is always there, but for a little while at least.
The same thing goes for teachers. Teachers have heaps of anxieties from the piles of work and the time they put into each lesson. In the end, teachers are adults who are just big kids with more homework.
So…do people enjoy fall fling? How do people feel about it? Does it give them more or less anxiety? Or do they feel indifferent?
I interviewed two students, Riley’s Shifflet (senior) and Julianna Spencer (senior). They gave their responses saying the fall fling is a great way to get involved with the community as well as the people.
They said there is no anxiety during the fall fling, and that it is more fun than anything.
And lastly their favorite things about the fall fling is that they like seeing all the clubs and promoting clubs, as well as meeting new people.
Next, I interviewed a teacher who has been a part of Hempfield for 12 years; Dr. Freydlin.
She mentioned that in the past 12 years, the fall fling has changed from having a lot of rain to sunnier days. During the fall fling they would have to relocate in the gym due to the rain.
Dr. Freydlin mentioned that it is a good time to go outside and join a club while getting involved in the hempfield community.
Lastly, her favorite things about the fall fling was the free snack which are the pretzels from the student council, and the grade level competitions.
As shown, the fall fling is a great way to get involved and have fun without worrying about school work. My personal opinion about fall fling is that I feel indifferent but I do agree that it is a great way to have fun and communicate with others.
