The biggest misconception about a medical career? That it starts in medical school. For successful and committed doctors, it starts much earlier; it could even start now. From seeds of empathy planted from a young age to the determination fostered by passion— a medical career starts whenever one wants it to. A medical career isn’t composed of just the physical abilities and skills like suturing and doing surgeries, but critical qualities like grit, determination, and empathy. For this purpose, Hempfield’s medical club can be a great option for aspiring healthcare workers. Even for people simply curious about medicine, this club can give great insight into what it may be like.
The Medical Club is a student-led organization dedicated to exploring the vast field of healthcare, fostering a passion for science, and providing hands-on learning experience for all students, regardless of their prior knowledge. It’s to note that isn’t exclusively for aspiring doctors, but also nurses, physician-assistants, physical therapists, biomedical engineers, veterinarians, and anyone also interested in the field of medicine! Simply those who are curious about it and are not 100% dedicated can explore through this club. Among all the clubs, the Medical club has to be one of the best for career readiness!
Some things the Medical club will do is dive into specialties, help students find a path best for them, bring in doctors for insights, and give students volunteer opportunities in hospitals, clinics, or related environments. The medical club will also cover educational topics and teach club members about fascinating medical topics. The president, Anupama Neopaney, plans on reaching out to local universities or colleges to create spots for club members to do research papers and studies. Though this is the first year of the club, the dedicated officers and advisor will try their best to have productive club time. As time goes on and the club matures, hopefully even more opportunities will be open to Hempfield students that are interested.
