On Thursday, January 29th, 2024, Hempfield High School held its Annual Dodgeball Classic, a tournament where groups of six teachers or students team up and compete against other teams to win the Championship. Each team paid $30 to join the tournament, and all proceeds went to the Hempfield High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
Different teams showed up and showed off their dodgeball skills, including a team of Varsity Girls Softball players, the “Last Minute Squad,” and the “Toxic Dreamers.” While some teams performed better than others, there could only be one winner. Several awards were given out, including the “Best Dressed Team” Award, which went to a team of six seniors and one sophomore, including Stephen Pitts.
Coach Wahls’ Disciples came in second place, putting up an impressive showing throughout the tournament but unfortunately losing the Championship in the last few seconds of the tournament Finals. Mrs. Kurtz, one of the High School gym teachers, won the “Best Play-By-Teacher” award for displaying dominant skills out on the court. Finally, the 2024 Dodgeball Classic Champions were Team “Barely Even Knew Her,” consisting of Varsity High School Boys Soccer players.
