On Friday, March 20, 2026 Hempfield held its annual Mini-Thon after a year hiatus. Mini-Thon is part of the broader THON organized by PennState Children’s Hospital. All donations made to Mini-Thon or THON go towards paying for medical procedures and other expenses that come with battling childhood cancer. While THON has been around for over 50 years, it wasn’t until 2009 that Hempfield started participating with our very own smaller version.

At the main THON event participants stand for 48 hours to help bring awareness to the cause and show their support. Mini-Thon, although much smaller, encouraged participants to remain active and standing for the 3 hours they participated. This year, the event started with a touching speech from someone who directly benefited from the efforts of THON and it continued with games, trivia, pizza, and much more. Mini-Thon had a lively atmosphere that allowed participants to be a part of something bigger than themselves and raise awareness about a cause that benefits so many families going through unimaginable times.
